Another of Paul McCartney’s songs that are directed at his relationship with Jane Asher.

The lyrics of For No One were written on holiday in Switzerland in early 1966. At this time Jane was beginning her rehearsals for her new job playing Ellen Terry in the play Sixty thousand nights. Paul could not get his head around the fact that Jane wanted to have her own career away from him, and not be known just as a Beatles girlfriend; this song summarises how he felt her love for him was disappearing. Musically this is probably one of the most beautiful songs that Paul McCartney ever wrote.

Two of the Beatles John and George were not present for the recording of for no one; Paul McCartney plays the piano and does the lead vocals.
