Beatles Album: Beatles for Sale : Track 5
Year: 1964
Lyrics: Lennon and McCartney
Length: 1.46
The lyrics of the Beatlles I’ll follow the sun song were written by Paul, and give an insight into the different views of failing love between him and John. Whereas John would find despair and self blame in a failed relationship Paul just shrugs it off; and goes to follow the sun, and find the next beautiful place.
This song was originally written in 1959 by Paul and the lyrics polished up a little when the Beatles were under pressure to get some of their own material on the Beatles for sale album. The song is inspired by the writing style of Buddy Holly. As with McCartney, Lennon was a big fan of Holly, as he took heart that someone who wore spectacles, like himself, could be successful. The group’s transitional name the Beetles was inspired by Holly’s backing group the crickets. Paul was such a big fan of Buddy Holly that he bought the publishing rights to all of his records.
On the song Paul’s lead vocal is double tracked, Paul does the harmonies, and Ringo gets to play with the bongo’s again.
John Lennon: Harmony vocals, Acoustic guitar.
Paul McCartney: Lead vocals, Acoustic guitar.
George Harrison: Lead Guitar
Ringo Starr: Bongos
