Beatles Album: Please Please Me: Track 6

    Year: 1963

    Lyrics : Lennon and McCartney

    Length: 2.24

The lyrics to ask me why were written in 1962 with the main contribution most likely coming from John Lennon. The Beatles used to perform this song during their days at the cavern. It is a light love song and was one of the original songs that the Beatles played at their first recording session. George Martin did not think the song was strong enough to be a single in it’s own right and therefore pushed it to being the b side of the please please me single. Interestingly though showcase at the Feb. 11 th session the song was recorded a little later.

This is one of John’s first attempts at a ballad and his lead singing on the Beatles ask me why are supported by harmonies from Paul and George.
