Beatles Album: A Hard Day’s Night: Track 11

    Year: 1964

    Lyrics: Lennon and McCartney

    Length: 2.14

The lyrics and music of the beatles song when I get home are inspired by John Lennon’s love of soul and Motown. This is one of Lennon’s more optimistic songs with him imagining what he was going to say to his loved one, and the good time that they would have when he got home to her later in the evening. Interestingly the lyric ‘when I get you home’ had already appeared in the ‘A hard day’s night song’ reflecting the similar nature of the songs. This Beatles song reflects John very well, who was never happier than when he had the security of a loved one and was at home reading his books.

On the when I get home song Lennon performed lead vocals with McCartney doing the harmony.
